Possible Stop To Testing on Chimps?

It has been reported that the US testing on Chimpanzees in laboratories could be put to a stop in as soon as a year. Personally, I think that from a moral standpoint this is a great thing, since we are closely related to the Chimps. However, since chimps have been very useful in research for creating vaccines for deadly diseases, this may not be as convinient for Science. To me, this also raises the question, "Since something closely related to us such as chimps should not be tourted or killed for our benefit, what about pigs? Aren't we closley related too? Why is it any different than the Chimps?" Some may disagree, saying they are food, but does that make any difference? I know for a fact the killing centers for these pigs can be less than humane.
